  • Frankston was a "shanty pub" owned by Mr. Stone at the junction of Schnapper Point and Hastings "Fish Track". On completion, the hostelry only needed a name; as Mrs. Stone had just had a baby boy named Frank, residents of the area referred to the pub as "Frank Stone's hotel". This was abbreviated to Frank stone's and eventually Frankston.
  • Mornington - originally Schnapper Point was named after the Earl of Mornington, the Duke of Wellington's son. 1894 the Mornington council appointed an inspector of nuisances. One of his duties was to collect the dog tax which had previously been collected by the police. Dog owners accused him of baring outside homes to elicit a response from hidden dogs whose owners could then be prosecuted. His main claim to fame was his efforts to prevent mixed bathing or paddling. This practice he described as "shocking" often occurred at Fishermen's beach. The inspector gave a detailed report on this "anti-social" behaviour which resulted in the erection (sic) of signs setting out areas to be used by males and females separately. these remained on the foreshore for many years.
  • Point Nepean - named after Evan Nepean, the secretary of the Admiralty
